Metropolitan Ministries has a designated Intern Development Program located on the outskirts of Downtown Tampa. We are seeking dedicated Social Work and Counseling students for an enriching internship experience.

What You'll Gain

Interning with Metropolitan Ministries offers a unique chance to grow both personally and professionally. You’ll work alongside other Counseling and Social Work interns and gain hands-on experience in:

  • Building rapport and probing techniques
  • Documentation and data entry
  • Crisis de-escalation strategies
  • Individual counseling for adults and children
  • Co-facilitating therapeutic groups
  • Substance and recovery support services

In addition, you’ll learn about the operations of a nonprofit organization, from therapeutic children’s groups to community outreach programs. You will also have the opportunity to engage in weekly trainings on various mental health topics.

Resiliency-Center_Interns

Internship Details

  • Eligibility: Must be enrolled in a Social Work or Counseling Program (Associates, Bachelors, Masters).
  • Schedule:
    •  Available Monday through Thursday, between 9 AM and 8 PM and Friday, between 9 AM and 5PM
    • At least one day with afternoon hours to optimize client sessions.
    • Minimum of 16 hours per week.
  • ·Requirements:
    • Apply via metromin.org/careers under the Clinical Internship Posting.
    • Complete an interview process.
    • Pass a Level II background screening and fingerprinting.
    • Additional background checks may be required for applicants who have lived outside Florida in the last five years (at the intern’s expense).
    • Attend a mandatory three-day training session prior to starting the internship.

Our Service are offered to individuals and families in the community who may not have access to mental health services due to costs. You do not have to be a Metropolitan Ministries client to receive services.
